Our Story

When We First Matched

"Olive you so much, you're olive ever wanted."

If you ask Bryan:

"I was bored and lonely on a Wednesday night, scrolling through endless profiles on eHarmony. I had tried other dating apps before, but none of them seemed to work for me. They were either too superficial, too complicated, or too sketchy. I was about to give up and watch Netflix, when I got a message notification. I clicked on her profile to take a look. She had a bright smile, sparkling eyes, and a cute dimple on her cheek. She looked like someone I would want to know. She was a medical lab technologist, a Christian, and a lover of tea. She also had the most amazing smile! In her message, there was no text; there was just a simple heart to my comment about my hatred of olives. Finally! Someone who dislikes olives too. Seriously, they are the worst... They are bitter, slimy, and ruin everything they touch. I felt a sudden connection with this stranger, and replied."

If you ask Haley:

"This time I was determined to stick it out! I had tried online dating a few years before, but was almost instantly overwhelmed and scared off by the matches I was getting. Having just finished my MLT diploma and with a new career ahead of me, I finally felt ready to try it again, but this time I was going to take a different approach, a more stringent one. After engaging in a few conversations, being methodical and deliberate about the matches I replied to, I kept noticing this one match. Part of my strategy this time around was to wait for matches to message me first, so I let it be. But I just kept coming back to his profile. In his photo he was holding an adorable baby (smart move). He had the sweetest smile and the kindest face, one that drew me to him. Stepping out of every comfort zone my conservative up bringing had instilled in me, I decided to make the first move (gasp!). Of course, I didn't want to go overboard, so I decided to give a thumbs up to a comment on his profile about his distaste for olives. And, the next thing I knew, we were messaging back and forth."

When We First Met

If you ask Bryan:

"We had been chatting back and forth for a couple of months. I really wanted to go on a date with this lady, so I asked if I could take her out on a date in July. She said she would be happy to go on a date with me! So on July 7, 2023, I flew out to Kelowna to meet Haley. We had an fun-packed 4 days! We went hiking up a mountain, mountain biking, parasailing, watched a movie at the theatre, went to the local farmer's market, rode amusement park rides at the local West Kelowna fair, and attended an outdoor Church service. We went to Scandia Golf and Games, and went cherry picking at an orchard. I also met Haley's mom and dad for the first time."

If you ask Haley:

"After chatting online for a few months, it was finally time for us to meet. Our first date! Bryan completely floored me by offering to fly to Kelowna for a weekend just so we could meet. This actually really stood out to me, that he was willing to spend the money to fly from Calgary to Kelowna just to meet me. I was pretty nervous as I waited for him at the airport. Up to this point we hadn't had a phone or video conversation, we had only chatted online, so it was a bit of gamble as to whether or not I'd even recognize him! But as soon as he walked down the ramp I knew it was him and my stomach fluttered. He introduced himself and gave me a hug. I was surprised that I felt like I was greeting a friend I had known for years. His one request for our first meeting was that he get to take me on a dinner date when he arrived, so off to Joey's we went. Conversation seemed to flow so easily, and that was only day one. The next three days were jam-packed with adventures. We did more in that one weekend than I had ever done in Kelowna in three days, even after living here for most of my life! After that weekend, I knew Bryan was someone I could have a blast with no matter what we did!"

When We Got Engaged

If you ask Bryan:

"We were in the Bahamas over Valentines Day (I know, I think I'm in trouble for the future Valentines Day since I set the bar so high! lol) I brought Haley out for a sunset walk and selfies by the Marina. I told her we should take selfies 5 minutes apart, so that we can see a time lapse of the sunset. On the 4th set of selfies (when I've finally gathered enough courage lol), I pulled out a picture of us on my phone, that had the words "Will You Marry Me, Haley?" photoshopped on it. I held out the selfie stick with my phone on it out as if I was taking a picture. When she saw the picture and read the words, she gasped. I knelt down on one knee, pulled out the ring, and proposed."

If you ask Haley:

"We were on vacation in The Bahamas, which was already a dream come true. Everywhere we went felt like I was living in a dream. One evening Bryan's mom suggested that we take a walk down to the marina at sunset to get some photos while she finished making us supper. We strolled hand in hand along the marina until we reached a location where we could look down the length of the marina towards the sunset. And then the selfies began! Every few minutes we'd walk over to the edge of the marina and take a few selfies to try to capture the colours of the sunset behind us. After a few of these "selfie sessions" we went back for one more and when Bryan brought his camera up for the photo I saw a picture of us from earlier that day photoshopped with "Will You Marry Me, Haley?" on it. I gasped and put my hands over my mouth as Bryan knelt down on one knee, pulled out the ring, and proposed. I leaned down, grabbed his face with both hands, kissed him and said, "Of course, I'll marry you!""
